to lose 6-1 may be regarded as a misfortune. to lose 8-2 seems like carelessness.

28 Aug

arsenal fans may have conveniently forgotten their teams collapse at old trafford in 2001 when utd won 6-1, but nothing can compare to an embarrassing display for the gunners in an 8-2 demolition job by the red devils this weekend.

if arsene wenger was not feeling the pressure to strengthen his squad before the game, then he certainly will post match.

a positive and pivotal moment in the game would have to be a wayne rooney hat-trick which confirms his return back to form after an unsettling 12 months.

happy holt opens account in the premier league

28 Aug

grant holt should be delighted with his first premier league goal in his career and feels that norwich can take great pride from this weekends result against the chelsea stars although the canaries lost 3-1 on the day.

holt happy with performance

competing with the blues for much of the game shows great promise and optimism for the newly promoted side and hopefully a change of fortune will occur with the odd penalty decision to sway in the canaries favour during the course of the season!

redknapp blames pre-season

tottenham hotspurs weekend 5-1 home defeat to manchester city has contributed to a opening season blip for the manager, harry redknapp.  the team are now bottom of the league, albeit one game shy of the rest, but the troubles of north london riots have certainly spilled over into a lack of overall momentum for the premier league football clubs in the area. Harry will be keen to recapture the magic that made him and his team such a successful combination in leading spurs into top league finishes and champions league fixtures in recent years.

dalglish delighted with reds

it’s almost as if kenny dalglish has never been away as he takes liverpool to the summit of the premier league with a convincing victory over bolton wanderers. one must wander how good will the reds be once stevie gerrard returns? king kenny reigned supreme during his first spell as player/manager of the club and continued their dominance in english domestic football during the 1980s.

carrow road concerns

27 Aug

norwich city have had a steady return back to the premiership with two draws including their first home point against stoke city last weekend however, the carling cup performance against visitors mk dons will cause concern about players state of mind going into the chelsea game at stamford bridge.

a 4-0 home defeat to league one side, mk dons was a shocking result for the canaries and the defensive mistakes will be a cause of concern for supporters as they face the might of chelsea this weekend. commitment and desire was questionable in the mid week cup match, and especially from new defender ayala although his latest injury that puts him out for two months is unfortunate!

fergie’s fringe’s favoured for victory

27 Aug

manchester united versus arsenal could see the red devils claim maximum points from the seasons fixtures so far in an intriguing match up with there arch rivals the gunners. arsenal have suffered from a difficult start and recent weakens of the squad has intensified the pressure on arsene wenger with the departure of two key players.

alex ferguson’s new young stars silenced critics with a convincing 3-0 victory over tottenham on monday. meanwhile, arsene wenger will hope his side builds on the teams impressive performance midweek, away to italian side udinese in the champions league. both sides will be missing key players which makes home advantage the more likely victor in this game.

turbulence at emirates as nasri leaves for city

23 Aug

there seems to be very little loyalty in football as manager arsene wenger gave samir nasri his professional break through into the premier league, and  the french international repays wenger with his gratitude by evacuating what looks like an uncomfortable nose dive for arsenal at the emirates.
